Parenting is hard!
Not a newsflash for those of us who have been in the trenches. My concentration in graduate school was working with children and families, and much of my career has been working with children, schools, parents, and community agencies. Even with many, many hours of continuing education and experience, becoming a parent was humbling. I get it! If you are parenting a neurospicy child things can be next level challenging. Consulting with someone not in your family regarding behaviors can be helpful. I’m available for coaching and support around this issue.
How can i support my child at school?
Feeling concerned about setting your child up for success at school? Wondering which educational model makes the most sense for your family? I get it. From preschool to college, school choice is an important decision. I started my career in schools and have worked across a variety of environments, giving me a unique and informed perspective on school settings. I actually considered being a teacher rather than a clinician and took several education courses in college. I am interested in different teaching styles and theories of learning and settings. This has given me philosophical understanding of methods such as Montessori, Waldorf, unschooling, etc. which combines nicely with my pragmatic experience in the field to provide me with informed opinions. As a parent, I researched options intensely. I love supporting other parents in figuring out which setting could be the best fit for their particular child. I am happy to provide' coaching around what questions to ask schools prior to enrollment and also to walk you through pros and cons of various settings. If you are in Asheville I am happy to talk about specific schools and programs, and if you are elsewhere we can still review choices and things to consider. I offer this service as a ‘pay whatever you can’ support as a way of giving back to the community.
